Rider Burnout

Posted on May 15, 2023 by Darrick Pullara

Over the years I've noticed a predicament that develops much to often. This is the problem of burn up for the rider. How frequently have we known somebody who started riding, and sooner or later made a decision to pursue a specific discipline to the exclusion of any activity involving horses. I am certain you have encountered this in the same way I've.

The sad part is that it generally does not have to happen. Think back again to when you initially begun to ride. You, exactly like I, enjoyed doing just about anything you can imagine on horseback. Remember the trail rides, days past at the barn that never appear to have sufficient hours inside them, all of the new friends, and think about the different teaches you were so excited to wait. It didn't matter what type of show it had been. It had horses and that has been all that mattered.

Somehow plenty of riders got side tracked. By that After all they reached a spot where they truly became enthralled with a specific discipline. Now I m not saying that there surely is anything wrong with having a genuine need to excel in virtually any of the specialties. What I'm attempting to highlight may be the total exclusion of the vary items that attracted people to riding to begin with. Now I understand there are those that enjoy being completely immersed in a single facet of riding. However, I really do believe they're not nearly all those owning and riding horses. Far to numerous times I've heard someone say, " I'm uninterested in horses, and selling out and taking on golf". Others 're going skiing or traveling or perhaps a myriad of alternative activities. Exactly why is it that these folks are losing fascination with riding while some are almost fanatical about any of it?

I have already been riding, competing and teaching for over forty years. Throughout that time I've had the chance to see and pay attention to many comments from the wide selection of horse enthusiast. That is why I'm so worried about what I'm seeing. At the same time when Expos are packing in the spectators by the thousands, how do some of this be true.

As I view it, the true problem is in the limitation of our activities involving horses. After we go on a path to concentrate on one discipline, unless we garner a massive quantity of success, it's just a question of time prior to the discouragement sets in. While I really do firmly think that folks are the happiest if they are learning and progressing in a few endeavor, few can sustain interest indefinitely without some obvious success.

Once a person starts competing, things change. At that time you're thrust right into a world of professionalism. It's tough on the market. Then your real costs activate. It's very problematic for you to definitely justify the enormous expenses incurred by showing without some real measured degree of success. They are basically the cold hard facts.

What I'm advocating is really a return to those ideas that first held our interest. I really do not feel it's important to abandon the fascination with a specific discipline. Instead, think about it as increasing, expanding, or enhancing your fundamental fascination with horses and riding. Do not let you to ultimately become so absorbed by something to the exclusion of the rest. We should protect ourselves from becoming burned out by overkill.

Enjoy to the fullest those areas of riding that basically hold your interest, but maintain a balance. That balance may be the key. Remember, the more you limit yourself, the earlier the decline will start. I don't mean to claim that we all have been domed, I'm merely attempting to bring your focus on a possibility that could arise for a few, if we as an organization do not treat it.

I indicate that we search for opportunities to expand our activities instead of limit them. Claim that trail ride, get yourself a group together and go watch a show in a totally different discipline, never to criticize but to understand, find one particular stable tours. I believe you get the theory. Start expanding your exposure and take with you some friends & most of most relax, learn, and revel in.
